Automotive Turbocharger Systems

Inventor(s):
BEASLEY MATTHEW GERARD

Patent Publication Number:
WO2004088108

Technology Benefit:
This twin turbocharger system provides superior performance particularly at low throttle operation and at hand over between the smaller turbocharger and the larger unit. This has been achieved due to the careful design of the exhaust butterfly valves so that leakage passed the valve when closed is brought to an absolute minimum.

Exhaust Gas Bypass Valve Housing

Description:
In use, at low speeds, the bypass valves 30 and 36 are both closed. It is most important that the valve 30 forms a reliable seal. Leakage from a standard butterfly valve would reduce efficiency by up to 40%.
