Intelligent Vehicle & Transport Systems

Legislative requirements and consumer demand are both driving the development of new intelligent vehicle and intelligent transport systems

Ricardo has invested considerably in R&D in these areas to ensure that we are able to continue offering technology and know-how that is applicable to our customers

Some of the internal R&D programmes undertaken in this area are as follows:

  1. Drivewise - integrated torque vectoring and steer-by-wire safety systems
  2. Sentience - using electronic horizon information to improve the efficiency of vehicle systems
  3. Co-Driver - collating disparate off-vehicle data sources and presenting enhanced electronic hazard warnings within a vehicle
  4. Footlite - assessing how a vehicle is being driven and providing real-time and web-based feedback to the driver in order to improve driving style
  5. facITS - defining an ITS classification and analysis scheme that allows non-safety threats to be identified and catered for in the design, this project included the specification and analysis of advanced ISA, remote diagnostics, bridge tolling and blind spot warning systems
  6. SARTRE - Ricardo is coordinating this European FP7 programme (due to start in September 09), this programme will develop a vehicle platoon that targets operation on public highways

In addition to the above R&D activities Ricardo has also undertaken a number of confidential customer projects in this area developing autonomous control, integrated safety integration and advanced driver assistance systems

Ricardo offers engineering services in this domain across the complete value chain, from market analysis and system specification through to implementation, integration and validation.
