Concept design for a powersplit with 2 planetary gearsets
Control strategy development comparing the system to a representation of the Toyota Prius
Ricardo technical responsibilities included:
- Baseline Toyota Prius model correlated to benchmark data
- Powersplit & vehicle supervisory control strategy
- Cost analysis
- Packaging and integration studies
Achievements:
- 8% improvement predicted in urban fuel economy over single planetary powersplit
- 5% improvement in fuel economy for Highway driving (compared to single planetary)
- E.machine 33% smaller for duel planetary. Offers potential for significant cost saving
