Vehicule Electronic Body and Chassis Systems

With the ever-expanding use of sophisticated electronic systems, delivery of a fully verified cost effective system has become a critical part of any vehicle programme.

Our vehicle electrical team is highly experienced in delivering body and chassis electrical sub-systems and complete systems, managing projects through from concept to production. The team has experience of working with the major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

For example, our approach to a dynamics system development programme would typically involve 3 phases:

Phase 1 – Feasibility & Software Simulation

Vehicle dynamic behaviour would be modelled using ADAMS, Simulink, or IPG CarMaker. These models would then be used to develop and assess the control algorithms for such systems as ESP, driveline and active suspension.
CAD Packaging, schematic design and harness routings would also be addressed at this stage.

Phase 2 - Hardware simulation

Once satisfactory results have been obtained from the software simulation, code will be generated which can be loaded into Ricardo R-Cube rapid prototyping unit or proprietary units. The system will then be tested in a Hardware-in-the-Loop environment or in a mule vehicle.

Phase 3 – Vehicle and component testing

This is the verification stage to ensure that the system meets all programme and legal requirements.

Full traceability is achieved from original specification through each of these stages to the production solution:

Past projects have included work with the following systems:

  • Dynamics Controllers
  • Harness systems
  • Instrument Clusters
  • Lighting Systems
  • Body Control Units
  • ABS and ESP Systems
  • Component and Vehicle EMC
  • Safety Systems
  • Starting and Charging Systems
  • Washer and Wiper Systems
  • Serial Communincations
  • Switch Gear
  • Security Systems
  • Diagnostics and Configuration
